Signed by the officiating clergy...
Today was my first day of classes, it went fairly well. It's very strange having professors with doctorates...it seems weird calling them Dr. ________, but if I didn't I'm sure they would not be impressed. My drama professor just goes by her first name, so much to remember! They talk to us like we're adults (which is normal I guess at university), I guess I'm still not used to it! I had four classes today, and I managed to be on time for all of them without getting lost (I impress myself sometimes). I'm still pretty overwhelmed, I'm hoping that feeling will go away soon. My favourite part of today was reading this: "If you are absent because of a death, provide the instructor with the program from the funeral, signed by the officiating clergy." I don't know about you, but if a family member or a close friend had just passed away, I wouldn't feel so good about getting their funeral program signed by the officiating clergy! "Excuse me sir? that's my _____ in the coffin, can you sign this for me?" Would you like a picture of the body to go along with that!? I understand that they need to be careful, but still, that sort of freaks me out! How would you feel if you were officiating a funeral and someone came up to ask for your autograph?! "Wow, I must be good at this!" or "What kind of sick freak are you?!"
And for more information, professional appointments do not qualify as a good reason to be absent.

It's crazy the rules they have to come up with because people have abused the system in the past. One too many people used the excuse that they were absent because they were at a funeral.
Where I work we are allowed time off for family deaths. It's called bereavement. Yeah. Anyhow. People abuse it.
I heard about this one guy who works for the same company as me and the story is that he missed a ton of work because like 10 people died in his family. True? I don't know. But you can understand why an employer or Prof would require proof!
